Ladies, Your Evening Cocktail Is Doing More Harm Than You Think

Think it’s just a glass of wine? Think again.

“I drink every night,” she said.

She’s a middle-aged woman.

She works 9–5.

Her kids are out of the house.

After a long day (or any day) she likes a good glass (or 2) of wine to unwind.

Harmless enough, right?

She says she never sleeps well because of her anxiety.

Xanax isn’t working.

Neither is hot tea or melatonin or any of that other stuff.

Her mind races, and before you know it, it’s 5am — time to wake up — and the racing continues.

She’s pissed at work because she’s constantly picking up the slack from her lazy coworker with no recognition from her boss.

She’s basically a one-woman show with a paycheck that doesn’t reflect how hard she works.

She’s on & off with a guy who (in her own words) is verbally abusive.

They name-call & argue, but he helps with the bills and I mean, they have fun sometimes, so it’s fine.

She hates looking at herself in the mirror.

She keeps remembering when she was a size 2 and has now resigned to the fact that she will never “be cute & little” again.

All she sees are her stomach rolls, and she’s fearful her body is part of the reason her boyfriend seems to be less attracted to her.

And she drinks every night.

Not a lot.

She doesn’t get drunk.

But when asked if she could cut back, she’s immediately & deeply resistant.

“Yeah that’s not gunna happen.”
